      <image:title>Throwback Thursday - Manhattan Library - Original Village Hall</image:title>
<image:caption>The first official location for the library was the Village Hall and the year was 1910. The Village Hall was then a very small building on the corner of McClure Street and Park Road, on the east side of the “V-point”, currently the village garage area. Aside form the library, it also housed the village “jail” and functioned as a meeting place. A newspaper article from 1910 November states: “The Manhattan library committee deserve much credit for the push and energy already shown in having such a fine assortment of books for public reading, also in decorating window with fancy sash curtain and adorning the walls with pictures.” The library was only open on Saturdays and the first librarian was Ms. Ruby Cockle, later assisted by sister Dorothy Cockle (both resided at the current Crosswind Farm) and Mrs. Clark Baker. The building no longer exists and was replaced by village garage.</image:caption>
